In ihrer ersten Zusammenarbeit befassen sich Powerhouses Denise Kottlett und Crystal Wall mit Strukturen aus Erde und Kompost. Die Erde existiert als eigenes Ökosystem seit jeher auch ohne den Menschen, mit mehr Bakterien in einem Komposthaufen als Sandkörnern auf dem gesamten Planeten. Das Duo zelebriert Liebesgeschichten zwischen den Spezies mit einer widerspenstigen sensorischen und verkörperten Perspektive auf das gemeinsame Leben von Mikroben und Kompost. Contaminare or To Touch Together erforscht, wie artenübergreifendes Vergnügen und Gemeinschaft sich anthropozentrischen und extraktiven Erzählungen über die Natur widersetzen können.

Denise Kottlett (sie/ihr)
lebt und arbeitet in Wien. Kottlett studierte bildende Kunst an der HBK Saarbrücken und kontextuelle Malerei an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien bei Ashley Hans Scheirl. Sie tritt sowohl als Solokünstlerin als auch in Gruppen und Kollektiven, in Film- und Theaterproduktionen auf und ist Organisatorin von Veranstaltungen wie dem Anti Valentines* Ball. Ihre Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit Körperpolitik, feministischer Geschichtsschreibung, mit Überleben und dessen Auswirkungen auf die eigene Körperlichkeit und Gesundheit.

Crystal Wall (dey/demm, sie/ihr)
ist interdisziplinäre*r Künstler*in und lebt in Wien. Mit einer tentakulären Denkweise besetzt Wall den Raum zwischen Performance und Gesang, Lyrik und Ritual, Volkskultur und Queerness. Deren klangliche Erkundungen legen den Schwerpunkt auf verruchte Tonhöhen, multimodulierte Stimmen und sanfte, krause Schreie. Durch verkörperte Polyphonie und kollektive Geschichtenerzählungen entschlüsselt ihre Arbeit wässrige Poesien und lockende Gesänge.

Powerhouse artists Denise Kottlett and Crystal Wall deal with soil and compost structures in their first cooperation. The Earth has existed as its own ecosystem without humans ever since, and a single compost heap contains more bacteria than there are grains of sand on the entire planet. Contaminare or To Touch Together celebrates love stories between different species, offering unruly sensory experiences and embodied perspectives on the shared lives of microbes and compost. The performance gleefully explores how multispecies’ pleasure and community can resist anthropocentric and extractive narratives about nature.

Denise Kottlett (she/her)
lives and works in Vienna. Kottlett studied visual arts at HBK Saarbrücken and contextual painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna under Ashley Hans Scheirl. She performs as a solo artist, in groups and collectives, in film and theatre productions, and is the organiser of events such as the Anti Valentines* Ball. Her work deals with body politics, feminist historiography, survival and its effects on one’s own physicality and health.

Crystal Wall (they/them, she/her)
is a cross-disciplinary artist based in Vienna. With a tentacular way of thinking, Wall touches on the space between performance and singing, poetry and ritual, folk culture and queerness. Their sonorous explorations emphasise wicked pitches, multi-modulated voices, and soft-frilled screams. Through embodied polyphony and collective storytelling, their work unravels aqueous poetic soundings and luring chants.
