Georges tremble ist ein Tanztrio, das sich mit Komposition, Interpretation und dem Körper als komplexem Ensemble von physio-/psychologischen Systemen auseinandersetzt.
Der Titel ist aus der Erinnerung an einen bestimmten Moment in Samuel Feldhandlers Kindheit entstanden, in dem er erlebte, wie sein Großvater Georges unerwartet den Namen seines Vaters im Raum der Namen der Pariser Shoah-Gedenkstätte entdeckte. Diese Begegnung mit dem Vorfahren brachte tief verborgene Gefühle an die Oberfläche und führte zu einem sehr kurzen Moment des Zitterns.
Mit Georges tremble setzt Samuel Feldhandler seine Forschung über den Einfluss musikalischen Kompositionswissens auf die Praxis des Tanzes und der Choreografie fort. Das Tanzstück ist wie eine dreiteilige Sonate aufgebaut und bedient sich u. a. des Zitats als Mittel, um mehrere von Feldhandlers künstlerischen Vorfahr*innen in Beziehung zu setzen: Phrasen von Dominique Bagouet, eine Geste von Helen Humes, ein Schritt von Jimmy Slyde, die Art, wie Dizzy Gillespies Körper die letzte Note einer Melodie begleitet, und mehr. Georges tremble ist ein poetischer Raum für das Entstehen eines Tanzvokabulars, das nicht aus einer einzigen Quelle, sondern aus einem Netz von Beziehungen hervorgeht.

Samuel Feldhandler ist Choreograf und lebt derzeit in Wien. Aus einer Musiker*innenfamilie stammend untersucht er in seinen seit 2012 entstandenen Arbeiten immer wieder Möglichkeiten, musikalische Formen in einem Tanzkontext umzusetzen. Er hat einen Bachelorabschluss in zeitgenössischem Tanz von der Amsterdam University of the Arts und einen Master in Choreografie von DOCH, Stockholm.

Georges tremble is a dance trio addressing composition, interpretation and the body as a complex ensemble of physio-/psychological systems. The title Georges tremble arose from the memory of a specific moment in Samuel Feldhandler’s childhood, in which he experienced his grandfather, Georges, unexpectedly finding the name of his father in the Room of Names at Paris’ Shoah Memorial. This ancestral visit brought old and profoundly hidden emotions to the surface, resulting in a very short moment of trembling.
Carrying on with Feldhandler’s research of how musical composition knowledge can inform a choreographic practice, Georges tremble is composed in the form of a three-part Sonata. Among other tools, the dance makes use of quotations with the desire to recall several of Feldhandler’s artistic ancestors in a relation: phrases by Dominique Bagouet, a hand gesture of Helen Humes, a step by Jimmy Slyde, how Dizzy Gillespie’s body accompanies the last note of a tune, and more. Georges tremble functions as a poetic space for a dance vocabulary to emerge not from a singular source but from a web of relationships.

Samuel Feldhander is a choreographer based in Vienna. Raised in a family of musicians, he passionately looks for ways to place musical forms within a dance context and has been showing choreographic works since 2012. He holds a bachelor’s degree in contemporary dance from Amsterdam University of the Arts and a Master’s degree in choreography from DOCH in Stockholm.
