Dance like nobody’s watching! Ein ziemliches Paradoxon, für jemanden der*die gerade auf der Bühne steht und 100 erwartungsvolle Blicke auf sich gerichtet hat. Aber in Krõõt Juuraks Stück geht es einzig und allein um das Vergnügen der Paare beim Gesellschaftstanz. Irgendwo zwischen Hobby, Selbstfindungstrip, künstlerischer Recherche und völliger Obsession geht Juurak seit zwei Jahren dem argentinischen Tango nach. Die Schrittfolge zu erklären oder gar zu meistern, wäre zu kompliziert, aber vielleicht kann man das Tangotanzen als eine Art Mikrochoreografie der Emotionen fassen, die die Tanzpartner*innen füreinander performen. Inspiriert von einem erfolgreichen TV-Format fordert Juurak für Dancing with ... Stars der Wiener Szene zum Tanzen auf. Im Duett mit den Kolleg*innen Veza Fernández, Lau Lukkarila, Barbara Kraus und Vera Rosner bringt dey die Frage aufs Tapet, was der zeitgenössische Tanz vom intimsten aller Gesellschaftstänze lernen kann. Krõõt Juurak,
geboren 1981 in Tallinn, Estland, lebt in Wien und ist Künstler*in, Performer*in, Stand-up-Comedian und Tänzer*in. Dey hat Choreografie bei ArteZ und bildende Kunst am Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam studiert. Juurak neigt zur Selbstsabotage, verheddert sich allzu gern in der Peinlichkeit des Moments und glaubt mehr an die Dramaturgie des Versuchs als an dessen Gelingen. Gemeinsam mit Alex Bailey performte dey für Haustiere oder inszenierte Konflikte am Arbeitsplatz und ließ später den einjährigen Sohn Regie führen. Regelmäßig präsentiert Juurak deren Stücke im Tanzquartier Wien, darunter zuletzt Lesson (2023), SCHOOL (2023, mit PARASOL) und CODOMESTICATION (2019, mit Alex Bailey). Zudem tourt dey mit PCCC* – The Politically Correct Comedy Club.

Dance like nobody’s watching! Quite a paradox for someone standing on stage with 100 expectant eyes on them. But ballroom dancing is all about the enjoyment of the two people dancing, and Krõõt Juurak has made one of these the subject of their new piece. Somewhere between hobby, self-discovery trip, artistic research and all-consuming obsession, Juurak has been pursuing Tango Argentino for two years now. Explaining, let alone mastering the sequence of steps, would be too complicated, but perhaps dancing the tango can be understood as a kind of micro-choreography of the emotions that the dance partners perform for each other. Inspired by a successful TV format, Juurak asks stars of the Viennese scene to dance for Dancing with ... In a duet with colleagues Veza Fernández, Lau Lukkarila, Barbara Kraus and Vera Rosner, they raise the question of what contemporary dance can learn from the most intimate of all ballroom dances. Krõõt Juurak,
born in 1981 in Tallinn, Estonia, is an artist, performer, stand-up comedian, and dancer based in Vienna. They studied choreography at ArteZ and fine arts at the Sandberg Institute, Amsterdam. Krõõt Juurak has a penchant for self-sabotage, for getting caught up in the awkwardness of the moment, trusting far more to the dramaturgy of the endeavour than to its actual success. Together with Alex Bailey, they have put workplace conflicts on the stage, performed for pets, and even assigned the director role to their one-year-old son. Juurak regularly presents their pieces at Tanzquartier Wien, including most recently, Lesson (2023), SCHOOL (2023, with PARASOL) and CODOMESTICATION (2019, with Alex Bailey).
